What is Myofunctional Therapy?

Myofunctional Therapy is an individualized program of exercises that help restore strength and coordination to the muscles of the face and tongue.

How Can I Help You?

It’s possible to have life-changing results from myofunctional therapy. Together we change habits to strengthen and retrain muscles of the face and tongue. We improve the way you  breathe, speak, chew and swallow.

Mouth Breathing

Mouth breathing at any age is not normal and will disrupt the body’s natural immune system, growth, sleep and brain functions. Extended mouth breathing often turns into snoring, sleep disordered breathing and sleep apnea.

Tongue-tie

A functional assessment must be done to fully evaluate a potential tongue-tie. Looking at pictures does not show the extent of any negative underlying issues surrounding a tongue-tie. Many patients have several negative compensations that must be addressed before and after a tongue-tie surgery is performed.

Oral Habits

Prolonged oral habits negatively influence our ability to develop optimally. Extended use of pacifiers, thumb or finger sucking, lip licking, and nail biting can disrupt proper growth of the jaws and the ability to withstand proper nasal breathing.

Jaw Pain

Jaw Pain, also known as temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD), can be related to many factors including, but not limited to: mouth breathing, clenching, grinding, dental crowding, chewing on one side of the mouth, nail biting, or even postural habits like resting your hand on your chin.

My educational background as a dental hygienist is in preventative care, so why ‘wait and see’ what happens when most issues surrounding systemic and oral health problems can be prevented. We’ve found a better way!
